Paragonix Sherpa is a solution for advanced organ preservation, transport and logistics. It is the ONLY and FIRST FDA-cleared donor heart transporter. SchmietaPlus designed the Sherpa as a single-use product from rough sketch concepts to detailed CAD. Always with the user in mind, all touch points are intuitive and easy to use while maintaining maximum sterility for staff and organ. A set of wheels and the telescoping handle provide mobility, while the thick-walled EPS foam housing protects the organ during transport.

Otter is a newborn conductive warmer designed specifically to allow rural hospitals with limited resources and inexperienced staff to successfully treat premature and low birthweight newborns who are especially vulnerable to hypothermia.
Design that Matters asked SchmietaPlus to evolve an existing concept that needed to be easy to clean, durable, and that features a clear and intuitive interface.
Plenty of volunteer designers, engineers, and human factor specialist have been contributing to this project before us. Find out more here: design that matters/otter

3EO Health, a “Point of Life” diagnostics company, collaborated with SchmietaPlus in the design of a simple, rapid, and portable, COVID-19 test. (The PCR-grade nucleic acid detection technology has been developed by Wyss Core Faculty member Peng Yin, Ph.D. and his research team at the Wyss Institute.)
We provided industrial design and aesthetic direction for both, the product and the packaging. Working closely with the 3EO Health team on ergonomics and usability through many rounds of prototypes and user testing feedback, we created an intuitive product that empowers people with access to self-testing. The minimal yet iconic design fits seamlessly in our homes.

The Illusion loudspeaker is Snell’s flagship model designed by Gerd Schmieta for serious audiophiles. Inspired by the look and feel, the materiality and craftsmanship of musical instruments, the gently curved surfaces and sculpted details express its top
audible performance. Finished in high gloss piano lacquer, the cabinet contrasts nicely with the cast aluminum baffles. A good example of form following (acoustical) function: tapered asymmetrically to minimize resonance within the cabinet, a narrow, rounded top baffle to limit high-frequency corner diffraction and a constant cross-sectional area to maximize cabinet volume.
SchmietPlus partnered with Fikst to design Vapotherm’s next-generation HVT 2.0 system.
Designed for use in hospitals and sub-acute facilities, the HVT 2.0 provides comfortable and effective therapy by delivering warmed and humidified high-flow respiratory gases.
Driven by the need to limit weight and size, the team explored various component architectures and studied resulting proportions and design opportunities through 3D models.
Ease-of-use and safety were the key factors in the industrial design of the cartridge and it’s latching mechanism.
User testing with patients and care givers of three different concepts and detail solutions provided valuable feedback that informed our the final design.

GelSight Mobile™ is a handheld instrument that precisely visualizes and measures the 3D topography of any surface, revealing microscopic structures that are difficult to detect using traditional inspection techniques. The proprietary elastomeric tactile sensor technology enables GelSight Mobile™ to be used on any surface - including metal, glass, carbon fiber, or textiles. This process provides micron-level details and rapid surface measurements, which are being used for a wide range of non-destructive mobile metrology applications.
SchmietaPlus collaborated with Fikst Product Development and the GelSight development team to create this precision instrument. Ergonomics and usability are fine-tuned through many rounds of prototypes and user testing feedback. This design combines perfect functionality with a minimal, pure aesthetic. The well-considered hexagonal shape is ergonomic and highly user-friendly. The balance of precision look, performance, and ruggedness ensures a high-quality appearance and feel.

PhotoniCare’s TOMi™ uses Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), an advanced light-based technology to see through the eardrum. For the first time, physicians can view a high-resolution depth image on-screen to learn what’s going on in the middle ear. Before TOMi™, care providers were using standard otoscopes and had to make subjective diagnoses based largely on the appearance of the eardrum. Now TOMi™ provides a non-invasive method to ascertain the contents of the middle ear, a key determinant when considering an infection diagnosis such as AOM.

The Minnow Pickup Pod™ offers contactless and safe food delivery and pickup for workplace, office building, and multifamily properties.
The Pickup Pod keeps food fresh, secure, and hot/cold in its individual insulated cubbies, while reducing pickup errors and streamlining the delivery process
The brief from the Minnow team was clear: design a simple, effective, and intuitive product with a minimal, sleek aesthetic that fits into various environments. SchmietaPlus worked closely with the Minnow development team from initial sketch to concept design, and from manufacturing details to brand implementation.

HER-SPEC is a single-use, click-free vaginal speculum with integrated LED light source. Designed in collaboration with obp and fikst and based on women’s user feedback and preference for a single-use speculum, HER-SPEC improves the patient experience by eliminating the clicking sound and discomfort with the ratchet mechanism in disposable vaginal specula.
Excelsius™ Technology is an ecosystem of exceptional technology designed to improve safety and care in the O.R. for patients and hospital staff alike. The uniquely intelligent features that define each of these platforms are designed to provide extraordinary care and change the way surgery is done.
Throughout the project, SchmietaPlus worked closely with the Globus Medical engineering team to create an intuitive and easy to use surgical system and to ensure a consistent design language that brings this family of products to life.

Vaxess is developing its proprietary MIMIX™ therapies based on technology originally developed by Tufts University and MIT.
The single-use preloaded applicator holds a shelf-stable patch that delivers medicines and vaccines through an array of silk tips. By pressing the button on the applicator the MIMIX™ Patch is applied to the skin. The embedded tips then resolve and release their treatment at its most effective dose for the most effective length of time. After a few minutes the patch can be removed and disposed.
